What is GasSaver?
Home Heating
Saving money on your energy bills shouldn’t mean sacrificing your comfort. GasSaver offers a smarter alternative. Keep your boiler, add our intelligent heat pump technology, and let Autopilot automatically reduce your bills and carbon footprint — without the need for expensive home upgrades.
Save More With GasSaver
Energy prices rise and fall throughout the day. GasSaver takes advantage of this by automatically switching between gas and electricity, sourcing your home energy at the lowest available cost. And because cheap energy is often clean energy, this means lower bills and fewer emissions, with no compromise on comfort.
Why GasSaver?

Save Money
GasSaver switches between your boiler and heat pump to source the cheapest energy at any given time, helping most UK households save up to 40% on their annual gas bills. Plus, installation costs for GasSaver are significantly lower than a standalone heat pump.

Save The Hassle
Installing a standalone heat pump often means upgrading insulation, radiators, and more. GasSaver works with your existing boiler, avoiding costly home modifications altogether. And because everything runs on Autopilot, you get the savings without the stress.

Save The Planet
GasSaver cuts your heating emissions by around 65% — nearly matching a standalone heat pump, but without the high cost or disruption. GasSaver naturally prioritises low-carbon electricity when it’s available, helping reduce your impact while supporting a more sustainable energy system.

Are You An Installer?
We all know a stand alone heat pump isn’t the right solution for every house. Maybe they haven’t the space or their house would need significant work to get it ready.
Our solution means that even in those cases you have a great offer for the customer. It works in most houses with an existing boiler even if the customer doesn’t want a hot water cylinder. And it’s a good way for customers to try a heat pump even if they’re not sure they can do without their boiler.
We really think it’s a great option for many customers. And for you, it’s a quick and easy install without the complexity of so many jobs.

How Does GasSaver Work?
GasSaver connects a simple heat pump to your existing boiler, managing them as a single, coordinated unit overseen by Autopilot.
Each day, Autopilot checks the weather forecast, your comfort preferences, and real-time energy prices, then plans how to heat your home and hot water for the lowest possible cost.
Autopilot always selects the cheaper energy source, which is usually cleaner too. The result? Your home stays comfortable at the best value, with a lower environmental impact.
The best part? Everything runs automatically. Just set your preferences in the app, and Autopilot does the rest.

Is GasSaver Right For My Home?
GasSaver is ideal for homes that weren’t built with energy efficiency in mind, especially older properties with solid walls, limited insulation, or heating systems that would be expensive to upgrade.
If your home is hard to retrofit, GasSaver offers an easier, lower-cost way to reduce your carbon footprint and energy bills, without giving up your boiler or comfort.
If you’re in a new-build or a home with excellent insulation and underfloor heating, a standalone heat pump may be the better option. But for millions of UK homes, GasSaver makes low-carbon heating far more accessible.
Futureproof With GasSaver
There’s more to GasSaver than savings and comfort. From system resilience to futureproofing your home, our technology is designed to be smarter in every sense.

Support A Smarter Energy System
Replacing every gas boiler in the UK with a heat pump would overload the country’s electricity grid. GasSaver eases that pressure by automatically switching between gas and electricity, helping keep our energy network balanced, resilient and cost-effective.

Built-In Resilience
Energy systems change quickly. Prices fluctuate. Policies shift. And the right choice today might not be the right one tomorrow. GasSaver keeps your options open. By combining a heat pump with your existing boiler.
You’re protected against price spikes, changing regulations, and unexpected breakdowns. If one system fails — or one fuel source becomes too expensive — the other keeps your home running.
And with Autopilot handling the switching, staying warm and in control has never been simpler.

Intelligent And Easy To Use
Set your comfort range and hot water preferences however you like, whenever you like. GasSaver takes care of the rest: updating automatically, monitoring your system’s performance, and alerting you if something seems off.
If you ever need to quickly heat your home, just hit ‘boost’. Autopilot will turn up the heat using gas, giving you faster warmth than a standalone heat pump can deliver.

Fully Customisable
Want to tweak your preferences? You can easily customise your heating and hot water needs by time of day or temperature band. Autopilot will update accordingly, optimising your new preferences for maximum savings.

Healthy By Design
Unlike standalone heat pump installs, GasSaver doesn’t require expensive insulation upgrades that reduce your ventilation, leading to stale air or mould. Your home stays comfortable, healthy, and breathable.

Futureproof Your Home
Curious about heat pumps, but not ready to ditch your boiler? GasSaver lets you try a hybrid setup with zero compromise. When your boiler reaches the end of its life, you’ll be better positioned to decide what comes next.

Frequently Asked Questions
A GasSaver installation could cost as little as £5,000 — far less than a standalone heat pump, which averages £13,000. That’s because we keep your existing boiler, so there’s no need to replace radiators, insulation, or over-engineer the system. For example, we can use a small, simple, quiet heat pump because it doesn’t need to serve the peak load.
Ongoing control is handled by Autopilot, which constantly finds the cheapest way to run your system — all for a small monthly fee (currently £5.99).
Every GasSaver setup includes a simple heat pump, our hydronic control board, a smart controller and a room sensor. You will need to switch to an Agile Electricity Tariff to unlock savings.
Depending on your home and preferences, you can also add a hot water cylinder, battery storage, or room cooling units — each managed seamlessly by Autopilot for maximum value and comfort.
GasSaver qualifies for the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM). It counts as a hybrid heating system, which gets half a certificate. The fine for non-compliance is currently £500 per unit, which implies that half a certificate is worth upto £250.
GasSaver doesn’t qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which is designed to subsidise standalone heat pumps. Even with the BUS grant, most households still pay £6,000+ for a heat pump, and may see limited savings unless they also invest in insulation, radiator upgrades, or other costly home improvements.
GasSaver is a better fit for older or less energy-efficient homes, where heat pumps alone can struggle to deliver consistent comfort. It avoids major installation work, keeps your boiler in place, and helps you cut costs and carbon, all managed automatically by Autopilot.
Not any more. Our heat pump runs as quietly as 43 dB(A) — that’s quieter than a modern dishwasher.
Like any heat pump, the noise level can rise slightly when it’s working harder, especially in very cold weather. But Autopilot helps reduce this by factoring efficiency into its planning. In situations where a standalone heat pump might get louder, our system often switches to gas instead — saving money and keeping things quieter.
There may still be times when using the heat pump offers better value, even in cold conditions. For example, windy weather can make electricity cheaper than gas. We’re also exploring ways to give users more control over this balance in future updates.
GasSaver is designed with built-in resilience. If either your boiler or heat pump fails, the other can keep your home running. Autopilot will monitor performance remotely and can alert you if something needs attention.
Not at all. You set your comfort range, and GasSaver works within it. Autopilot will optimise heating and hot water around your settings, using cheaper energy times when it makes sense — but your home will always stay within the limits you’ve chosen. The wider the range, the more you could save, but you’re always in control.
Life’s unpredictable. If you’re home on a day you weren’t expecting to be, or you return from holiday early, Boost uses your boiler to quickly bring the temperature or hot water up to your comfort level — no long wait times like you might get with a heat pump alone.
GasSaver is all about real-world carbon reduction. By switching intelligently between gas and electricity, we use greener energy when it’s available and reduce emissions by up to 65% — almost the same as a standalone heat pump. As the grid gets cleaner, your system will too.
Most hybrid boilers run the heat pump by priority, regardless of cost or carbon footprint, and use the gas solely to boost heat when the heat pump can’t meet demand. Bountifuel uses smart controls to manage the two heat sources to deliver your heat and hot water requirements at the lowest cost.
